Let's create a journal! All you need is paper...and something to write or draw with. Each day, I would like you to draw a picture of one thing that you did, that made you feel happy. Have a family member write some words next to your picture, about why this activity made you feel happy. Don't forget to put the date on it. When we get back to school....I would love for you to share your "Happiness Journal" with your friends and classmates. Can you make all of the alphabet letters with your body? Then can you go back and do the letters that spell your name...first, middle and last? Encourage your family members to join you! : ) Sensory Project:
1 dishpan or plastic container/bucket 1 roll of toilet paper 1/4 cup blue liquid dish soap water
Dip a bubble wand or cookie cutter in the bubble dough and then blow bubbles. More bubbles will appear as your kids play Have an "Alphabet Scavenger Hunt". Search your house for the letters in your name. Can you find them in both upper and lowercase letters? Another variation: Make a deck of Alphabet cards (using index cards or paper). Set a timer: compete against each other. Pick a card from the deck, see how many of that letter you can find in 20 seconds or 1 minute, before timer goes off. The player with the most letters win! The Unicorn Shel Silverstein A long time ago, when the earth was still green, There were more kinds of animals than you've ever seen; They'd run around free while the earth was being born, The loveliest of all was the Unicorn. There was green alligators and long-necked geese, Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees, Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born, The loveliest of all was the Unicorn. *What is your favorite animal?
Draw a picture of it. Can you use natural materials to create it? (pine cones, sea shells, acorns, etc.) Can you draw a unicorn in the sand/dirt using a stick? Something fun to do...as well as building on what we have been working on in the classroom. *Find 20 objects (some ideas: leaves, pine cones, acorns, rocks, toys, cups, pots and pans, crayons, etc.) -Can you count your objects on your own 1-20 (1:1 correspondence~ touch each one as you count it)? -Can you sort your objects by size? shape? color? texture? -Can you make the first or last letter in your name? -Can you trace them? Color them in? Cut them out? Then what can you make with them? *Read Book: Ten Black Dots (Donald Crews) Do "Book Share" with your family. Bookmark your favorite page. Explain to your family why that is your favorite page.
Book Discussion: *Is the Author and illustrator a boy or a girl? Are they the same person? *What type of material is the book made out of? *What type of book is it? Are the pages numbered? Is there a table of contents at the front of the book? Index at the back? *Can you find the spine of the book? *What did you use as a bookmark? *Who is your favorite character in the book? Does your family have a favorite character? Why? Why Not? *Did you like this book? Would you recommend it to someone else? : ) |
