We have been reading different books about winter. The children have been making connections about which animals live on Cape Cod.
The children enjoy the "Froggy" books. They especially enjoyed this one. We learned that Froggy hibernates. The children wanted to know if the frogs on Cape Cod hibernate. We found out that most do. They hibernate in different places, such as the American bullfrog hibernates in the water and the Peepers hibernate on land.
Today, we started talking about what migration is... traveling to someplace that is warmer (The class came up with this definition). One friend made the comparison to when they go on vacation to Florida. "My family likes to travel to Florida to get warm."
After reading the book Following Papa's Song, the children were curious if all animals that live in the ocean migrate. Also, if they all travel together (ie. Do the dolphins follow the whales? or do they go someplace with their families that is different.). Make a list of animals that you see in your yard or near your house. Then bring the list into school so that we can add these animals to the list of animals that we will be studying. : )
*Don't forget to write your name on the top of the list. Cape Cod Animals:
Which animals hibernate, migrate and are active all year Another wonderful STEAM Fair. All the children worked very hard learning about caring for the environment and about how to reduce, reuse and recycle what we have.
