Today Preschool 4 was invited to join the elementary school to watch a performance of African drumming and dancing in the Big Room.
We would like to thank Lilli and her Mom, Justine, for bringing in some cookies and candy that they got at the Karoo Restaurant in Eastham.
The cookies and candy that the children tried are made in Africa. The children all enjoyed the Jelly Tot candies. Some of the children found then to be sweet while others thought that they tasted sour. The majority of the children enjoyed the cookie. The 2 children who did not like the cookies said that it was the texture and smell that they didn't like. The said that they tasted "ok". The children recalled the coconut lesson that we did at the beginning of the year. The cookies had coconut in them. A few of the children said that the coconut tasted different in the cookies, then the coconut that we tried. They said that the coconut in the cookies tasted dryer and more crunchy. Preschool 4 has chosen the book, Why The Sky Is Far Away, to study for the art faire.
Today we looked at the world map. We located the United States and Cape Cod. We then found Africa and talked about how we would get to Africa if we wanted to travel there. Could we walk there? Or would it be better to swim, take a boat or fly there? The children asked if there was a bridge that could take us there or a road? We then found Nigeria, where the story takes place. We talked about how it is part of Africa, like Massachusetts (Cape Cod) is part of the United States. |
