We had a bake sale at the Art & Lit Faire. Thank you to the families that donated to the goodies table. Here is a couple of pictures of some of the yummy samplings! :)

The children all wanted a moon to be on the island. They all decided that it should be a "circle" shape. There will be a full moon on the island.
A few friends added to the discussion, as to what the moon should look like. Alina: "the moon is white." Aidan: "We have to put a little bit of blue on it, because of the blue moon." Helen: "We need to put a lot of glitter on it, so that everyone can see it from far away." Evie: "It needs circles so that the martians can jump out of it." It is all about the process.
We used 2 different techniques creating our stars. Some friends blew bubbles in a bowl (after helping to make the bubble solution/mixture) using a straw, then laid the star on top of the bubbles that they created in the bowl. Other friends chose to use the straw to blow the paint around on top of their star and then sprinkle glitter on top of the star when they were finished. We learned that some colors worked better than others (red worked well, but yellow not so much with the first technique. A few friends thought that their starts needed more color, so they used crayons to continue to decorate their star. A few friends are very scared of "thunder" in our class. They associate rain with thunder. We took the attention away from the "rainy weather" being scary on our island, but rather it turning into a "sun shower". We talked about why it rains when the sun is out sometimes (A sun shower is usually caused by the wind, blowing the raindrops where there are no clouds and the sun is out.). We also talked about when it is cold out, it is called a "snow shower".
The children used tissue paper and glue sticks to create their raindrops. We made gray paint (or silver) by mixing black and white paint together. Then we painted with Q-tips. : ) How are you planning on getting to the island? These tickets are "magical" and they can be used with whatever type of transportation that you decide to use (car, train, bus, submarine, plane, jet, hot air balloon, riding a dolphin, boat, ferry, cruise ship or just wearing your acorn floaties.).
