This "Big" buddy was so excited to see that her "little" buddy now knows how to climb the stairs to the slide all by herself. She kept saying "Look what she can do now!".
Each day, the children will be giving the "star of the day" a compliment. We have been talking about compliments (what we like about you). A list of compliments will go home with your child on their day. There will be a place at the bottom for the families to give a compliment as well.
We re-read the book, Big Tracks Little Tracks: Following Animal Prints (by: Millicent E. Selsam). We then ventured outside, to be "Nature Detectives". The children found some signs of spring, as well as other fun things growing on the playground.
*Optional Homework: Be a "nature detective" at home. Draw a picture of 1 animal that you have seen in your yard at home. (then bring it back to school to share with the class). Today, we played in our pajamas and had a pancake party. We also passed out our valentine cards. I would like to thank everyone for their donations. The children had a lot of fun! : )
Provocation Exploration: The child on the left: "I made us. We are like statues standing tall. Statues don't smile."
We have started something new in PK. Each child will be getting a list of compliments sent home with them, when it is their turn to be "star of the day". These compliments will be what their classmates like about them. There will be a section for family members to add their compliments also.
Today, we enjoyed watching a book be read aloud to us. The children teamed up with their mentor buddies ("Big Buddies") to brainstorm and come up with ways that we can be kind to others. After vacation, we will be putting our project on display in the school. The children working together to build a police station. Sharing their ideas of what a police station is, and what the police station will need.
Two children creating lists of materials that we will need to create our classroom police station. Some of the materials that we will need are: hats, police cars, sirens, police clothes, walkie talkies, office, computers and workers. in Science Co-op, with Ms. Anita's class, we have started talking about the Olympics. Today, we learned that the winter olympics are being held in South Korea. We found South Korea on the world map. We read that there is a big parade for the opening ceremonies. That there is a torch that gets lit at the start of the games and the flame gets blown out at the end of the games. We also learned other fun facts about the Olympics.
Tonight is the opening ceremonies, the children might be asking some of you if they can watch part of it. ; ) Today, in "Big" Buddies, Ms. Chelsey read a couple of Valentine's Day stories to us. We then created our own tissue paper hearts. They will be on display briefly in school this week before being sent home next week.
Today, we needed to stay in for Mentor Buddies with the "Little's". The temperature was too cold for us to go outside. We enjoyed using their sensory table with them. They had dried rice and black beans in it. Today, Ms. Ann showed everyone, what each group has been working on in her Health, Fitness and Wellness classes. Then, Ms. Anita's class performed the song 5 Green & Speckled Frogs and The Weekday Rap (song/dance).
