Just a friendly reminder that all order forms are due on Friday November 6th!
Today was a special day for one of our PK students. He turned a "whole hand". He is 5!
To celebrate, we had our lunch in the Community Room and enjoyed a yummy after lunch treat, as we sang Happy Birthday. Costume Day was a lot of fun at The Laurel School. We had a parade to show off our costumes and we watched the Glee Club perform their "Flash Mob" dance. We also sang our Halloween songs for our families. They gave us a standing ovation! Ms. Paige, our music teacher, sang spooky Halloween songs with us. She also sang the "Bumblebee" song, as all the teachers were dressed up like bumblebees. We then had a huge party to celebrate Halloween! : )
Halloween songs & a finger play has been posted under the "songs" heading. Have your children show you the hand movements that go along with them! : )
This week we will be celebrating at the Laurel School! The themes for each day are as follow:
Monday: Crazy Hair Day Tuesday: Mismatch Day Wednesday: What do you want to be when you grow up? Thursday: School Spirit Day (Green & White) Friday: Costume Day! (please no weapons) The Pre-kindergarten and the Preschool will be having a joint Halloween Party. There is a sign up sheet hanging on the door leading to the preschool wing of the school.
Date: Friday October 30, 2015 Time: TBA Halloween Parade Halloween sing along Take off costumes Snack Halloween Party Halloween party games Pictures (below): Airplane fun in Morning Care. Swinging with our Buddies. Nelson the bear. Aftercare ...getting to use "all" of the magnetic tiles! "I made a parking compartment thing."
Measuring the pumpkin using cubes...height & width. Counting the number of lines on our pumpkin and creating a chart to show the results. We also made predictions whether the pumpkin was going to sink or float.
We carved the pumpkin and cleaned out all the seeds. We then cooked the seeds and had a taste test! :) Thank you to Courtney for the generous donation of Magnet Tiles. We opened the box during circle time We talked about how we could thank her for the wonderful donation. The children thought that we could make pictures for her...and that is what we did! :)
Creating a friendship wreath...The children traced their hands. They decorated the paper and then cut it out to for a wreath. We will be finishing it next Monday! :)
Today we watched a short video about cranberries. We watched how they are harvested, processed and ready to eat! We then read a book about how cranberries grow. The children illustrated their C page for their alphabet books.
Have you linked your Stop and Shop card to the A+ School Rewards program yet? It is FREE! It is a fundraiser that The Laurel School is participating in. Just go online. Use the 5 digit code to register your card. Then each time you shop at Stop & Shop have them scan your card and The Laurel School will earn money!
It's free and easy and helps The Laurel School a lot! :)
Today we read the book "Fall Leaves Fall". We then went outside and observed changes in our tree. The "scientists" noticed that the leaves were changing colors. We also touched the leaves on sassafras tree and compared them to the oak leaves. A few of the scientists noticed that the sassafras leaves were "soft" and "fluffy" like a cat, while the oak leaves were "cold", "waxy" and "smooth". Once inside we started a tree painting project. We used brown paint to make our tree trunks. Next week we will be adding leaves.
Today a snail friend was found sliding along slowly down the hall at the Laurel School. The preschoolers had fun holding the snail and watching him move in and out of his shell.
On the playground, the children enjoyed working in the "restaurant" cooking up and selling "Chicken Nuggets" & "Pie". We even had a delivery driver! The swings a popular activity as well. While other friends were seeing if the sand was cold or hot, as the sun was not out. |
