Today, we finished up the first part of our "house" project. We tore up old maps of different towns on Cape Cod. We then used glue to create a map collage. The next step, we will begin tomorrow...creating our homes.
Today, we talked about what a friend is. We talked about how "friends" treat each other. The children brainstormed together and took turns talking as they expressed their thoughts and ideas. We also discussed why it is important to be kind to one another and the world all around us.
The children used the swings, played tag, hide and go seek, football, frisbee and chalk together. The Pre-K children were asked after lunch what they liked best about "Buddies" today (the answers are as follow): *Playing hide and seek. *Tagging with my friend on the big playground. *Playing hide and go seek with my new friends. They came and looked for me. *Hide and go seek with the big kids. They let us play, because we are friends now. *Playing with the balls on the black top. The ball would go thru the puddle. It was fun! *Swinging on the swings with my brother. *Playing with the frisbee with the big kids. *Playing football with my buddies! The storm and rainy weather has passed....and left assorted size and color mushrooms on the playground. The children pointed them out, as Ms. Nancy scooped them up (to keep our playground safe).
Monday:
Art: 10:30-11( with Ms. Alex) Tuesday: Wednesday: Dance & Movement: 11:45-12:15 (with Mr. David) Thursday: Art: 9-9:30 (with Ms. Alex) Mentor Buddies: 11-11:30 (with Ms. Chelsey's class) Spanish: 11:30-12:00 (with Senora Mary) Friday: Dance & Movement: 9-9:30 (with Mr. David) Buddies: 11-11:30 (with Ms. Anita's class) Music: 12-12:30 (with Ms. Paige) Today, while at morning circle, a child said "I like that song that we sing at calendar." I told the children how the song came about. A child from last years class, came in and performed it. All the children liked the song and it stuck.
Today, during play time, a few girls came up with the idea of having a "Play Performance" that all the children could participate in. They set up chairs for the audience to sit in. They put classroom books on each chair (Pamphlets) and they determined who would be in the show (cast). Our Buddies (Ms. Chelsey's room & Ms. Anita's room) attended. Some children got up and sang solo's, other duets. Some children told jokes, others danced. Today, we learned about cranberries! Here are some things we learned about cranberries.
*They grow on a bog (cranberry bog) *They are first white in color *They grown on a plant, which is vine like. *When they are ready to be harvested, they are taken off the plants/vines by machines and they float in the water. *They are planted in sand/soil Today, we had our first meeting with Ms. Chelsey's class. We played a game of "getting to know you". Each child said their name and something like that they liked to do. We found that we had a lot of connections.
Today, we reviewed where the Cape Cod Canal is. We talked about how there are 3 bridges that go over the canal. Two of the bridges are for cars, trucks and motorcycles. But one of the bridges' is for trains. We learned about why the bridge is up (so big boats can go under it) and why it goes down (so that trains can go over it). We also watched a short video on YouTube about the actual bridge and how the train crosses the bridge. After many attempts, and not giving up, she was able to make her building stand up. She is so proud of her "house"!
Today, we discussed what a "First Responder" is. Nine-eleven will always be a day that we remember our "First Responders" and all the people they helped! They are our true heroes! We honor you and remember the day, by creating American flags.
