Today we had a special visitor come to school. The children had a blast exploring the "Big Red Truck". Thanks for taking time out of your day to show us your truck!

On Tuesday we found out that Mickey, the school parakeet, had "died" over vacation. Some of them remembered when Mickey's cage-mate, Pearl, died last year. They wanted to share their memories about Mickey by making a poster so others would know how much Mickey meant to our classroom. They created pictures of Mickey and also dictated what they liked about him. We visited his empty cage and looked at feathers, that belonged to him, that are in our science area. Some of the children shared memories of loved ones who have "died" (ie. family members, pets from home, etc.).
While outside filling up the bird feeder and checking on the nest, the children noticed that there were small pine cones growing on the bush. They noticed that the bush had pine needles on it as well. We will be watching the bush over the next few weeks to see if it grows into a tree or stays the same size as the other bushes (1/2 the class thinks it will stay a bush, the other 1/2 thinks it will grow into a "Christmas" tree.). In the last 2 pictures, the children found a few small ants on the walk way. One child said, "Look, that ant is smaller than my arm." He then had it walk up his forearm and onto his upper arm. He then said "I was right, it is so small it is almost hard to see." Another boy said "That ant is smaller than my freckle." Garden finds:
Questions we are pondering... *Will the water turn purple? *Will the dandelion close up at night? (it did) Just a friendly reminder that school will be closed Monday April 17th to Friday April 23rd. The Laurel School will reopen on Monday April 24th. I hope everyone has a wonderful vacation. Stay safe and have fun! : )
Egg Hunt: On our playground Mentor Buddies with Ms. Anita's Class *Showing off our eggs Opening of the eggs: What's inside?
While playing outside on the playground, after the "Egg Hunt", a few children found what they called "Bunny Fur" on the playground.
Perfect weather to play soccer! Today, we were asked if we would like to join Ms. Lynn's Dance & Movement class, as they needed another team to play soccer. We called ourselves the "Lobsters". We are getting better at passing and working as a team. We scored 2 goals! : )
Today, we planted "Magic Seeds". We talked about what we thought will sprout from them. We can't wait to see the results tomorrow! : )
Tim's family came in and taught us some fun & interesting facts about lobsters. The children liked touching the lobster the best, at the end of the presentation.
Today, the elementary school put on a mini concert showing us their singing and musical instrument skills. We loved being the audience!
Same vs. Different: Today, one of the children noticed that a friend in our classroom had the same sneakers as a friend in Ms. Lynn's class. We looked at similarities (both children are the same age, they both are in Pre-K, they both have pants on, long sleeves and they both have blue sneakers on). We also looked at the differences (girl & boy, colors of shoelaces, height, etc).
We would like to thank one of the Dad's in the PK class. He helped us move a large broken plastic cube climber off of our playground. Thank you!
These 2 boys used the same type of bookmarks, to mark their favorite page, during Book Share. Creative idea using magnifying glasses! : )They both said that they used a magnifying glass for a bookmark because, it could make the small words bigger. : )
Today, we went outside for "Buddies". Other "Buddy" groups joined us. We combined and made 2 teams. We played soccer! : )
Having fun in the sun....Filling the bird feeder, checking on the nest, picking up seeds (that we dropped from the bird feeder), noticing buds on the bush as well as a few new green leaves. Comparing the color of the flowers (daffodils, violets, etc.). Spring is here! : )
Have you bought your ticket(s) yet? It is not too late. There are only 10 tickets left. Please see Mrs. Mills, in the front office, if you are interested!
Today, at Preschool Buddies, we talked about what a volcano is. A few children in our classroom have been talking about Hawaii and the "big volcano" there. Ms. Anita's class has also been talking about what a volcano is, as they have been learning about dinosaurs. We invited Ms. Lynn's class to join us today.
The children worked together to create a large hill of sand. We used a small plastic cup, baking soda, food coloring and vinegar. (We also tried it with blue food coloring, as the children thought it only worked with red.) |
