*Here are some pictures of the children's initial responses to the snow.
Today during outdoor playtime, we saw small snowflakes falling from the sky! GB made the comment "How can it snow if the pool isn't frozen yet?" *Here are some pictures of the children's initial responses to the snow.

Today with our Mentor Buddies we talked about different ways that people are kind to each other. We talked about what kindness means to us. Then we created our own link to create a paper chain. The Pre-kindergarten children were encouraged to ask a buddy to help them write their ideas and feelings on their chain link.
*The weather was cold outside today...we enjoyed indoor free play with our "Buddies". Some friends played "pick up sticks", "Jenga" and "magnetic tiles". Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope all of you have a wonderful day! : ) Today we went to the Brewster Post Office on a field trip. It was our first time in the Laurel School Van (aka the Cape Cod Classroom). Riding in the van for the first time...so exciting! All of our car seats/ booster seats fit! Arriving at the post office. Time to mail our Thanksgiving cards to our homes. First thing we do....stand in line at the counter! (there is so much to look at....cards, boxes, bubble wrap, people, signs, colors, machines, etc.) Tour time....We wonder what we will see! Making Thank You pictures for our new friends at the Brewster Post Office!
Mickey (green/yellow) and Pearl (blue/white) are our parakeets at school. They typically stay in Ms. Amy's office. But recently they have moved into the Laurel School Library (where it is warmer).
Pearl was sick on Monday, she wasn't perching or "tweeting" like she usually does. Ms. Amy brought her to the vet. She has a cold. Ms. Amy has been giving her medicine each morning. Now Pearl is much better. She is "tweeting" again, as well as perching. The children have been worried about Pearl this week. On Monday & Tuesday she wasn't up for visitors, but the rest of the week we have been visiting them again. They seem to like their new home in the library. They have more visitors! We are collecting Food Pantry items. Some of the non-perishable food items that the Food Pantry is requesting are...
*Grains (brown rice, quinoa, bulgur, whole grain pasta, whole grain cereal, rolled oats) *Produce (canned fruit in 100% juice, canned low sodium vegetables, dried fruit (no added sugar preferred) *Proteins (canned tuna, canned salmon, canned chicken, nuts, dried beans, dried lentils, canned low sodium beans) Thank you in advance for all your help and support! : ) This has been a wonderful first term. All the children are doing great! Your child's progress report is in their cubbie! : )
Today Ms. Lynn's class as well as our PK class watched a short movie about why we brush our teeth.
Starting on December 1st, the PK class will be brushing their teeth after lunch. If you would like your children to participate in this, please send them to school with toothpaste, a toothbrush and a small cup. Please write their name on all of them. Thanks! *Please know that this is optional! Today with Mrs. L, the children created their own turkey's. This project was a multiple step project and the children did a wonderful job.
Steps/Process: 1. Trace their hand 2. Cut out their hand. 3. Decorate their turkey (hand) 4. Add details that turkey's have Today in Kindergarten Co-op...we made a graph and voted for our favorite type of pie. We would like you to vote also. (see the graph in the hall, by the preschool wing) : )
We have our first Field Trip to the Post Office.
*Please remember to bring in your child's car seat or booster seat on the day of the trip. Please write their name on it (piece of paper is fine taped on it). You can drop them off at the office with Ms. Amy. Thank you! Today we read the book, Thanksgiving Day (by: Anne Rockwell). The children said that they wanted to have a "Thankful Picnic" for lunch. Therefore we all ate our lunches on the rug today in a picnic style.
This week in Science Co-Op we created a fall collage.
*We went for a nature walk in the Meditation Garden to visit with our tree. We also collected interesting pieces of fall nature. Pictures:
Left: "This has a spider body...see the thorax and the abdomen? It has claws like a crab on the side." Right: "Isn't this the silliest thing you have ever seen? Look at the pointy ones..they are just so silly!" Today in Mentors, one of the 4th graders read Gracias, The Thanksgiving Turkey (By: Joy Cowley). We then went outside on the Preschool Playground to play.
It was great to see so much participation from our classroom at the Harvest Night Gala. Whether you went to the Gala, helped sell raffle tickets or made a donation to the prizes. Thank you for all your hard work. Without you, it wouldn't have been successful. The school met their financial goal from the Gala night. Thank you again!
Here are some pictures from our classroom donation, as it was being put together by your wonderful young artists! They worked hard and it came out AMAZING! : ) The children gathered leaves for "Optional Homework" as well as on the school playground. We then sorted them using different categories, color, shape, size, smell, wet/dry, crunchy/not crunchy, etc.
Please check under the "Art & Literature Faire" section of our classroom site for more information about what we have been doing to get ready for the faire. You go to the "more" then click on" Art & Literature Faire".
It feels like "summer". The sun is shining bright!
left: "My hair feels hot!" middle: "Mr. Sun is making the slide feel hot!" right: "We are friends." Today we talked about how we can be a good friend. We read the book; I'm A Good Friend (By: David Parker).
Next week we will start talking about compliments and how to give a compliment. On Wednesday afternoons, the preschool children who stay for aftercare participate in the "Kindness Club". We do random acts of kindness. We have been talking about birthday's this week.
We, as a club, have decided that we will start celebrating all the kids in our school, birthdays! We came up with some ideas this week, and will start the ball rolling next week as we make cards and small "bags of kindness". Today we made a painting for Mrs. Mills' mother in law, as it was her birthday. One of the children in the elementary school told us. The Kindness Club agreed that it would be something nice to do. |
