We had a great turnout for the last movie of the school year! Lots of yummie snacks were served! Thank you all for coming! : )
Today, in Science Co-Op (w/ Ms. Lynn's class), the children went out to look at "our tree". We made our final observation on the tree. We checked on the "seed bombs" that we had left by our tree earlier in the year. We discovered that they grew into grass. We also noticed "baby" pine trees near them.
Some children gathered interesting pine needles, pine cones and acorns. They compared what they found. They used their senses to investigate these materials further (IE. "This pine needle feels sticky. I just pulled it off the bunch. It smells like a Christmas tree.", "Look at this small tiny baby pine cone. It is growing. It is so hard and pointy." and "You have to feel this...it's not wood it's a rock!", etc.) Today, in Mentor Buddies, the children worked together to create their own cherry blossom trees. The children traced their hands and forearm on brown construction paper. Then they used paint to create their leaves for their tree.
A few "buddies" read together in the library after they were finished with their projects. Today, the children noticed the ants. A few children sat for ten minutes watching the ants carry pieces' of sand away from their hole. One child said "I wish the sand was invisible, so that we could see what they were doing under the sand."
The swings have been very popular today. Most of the children can pump on their own now! : ) In the library there is an incubator with 24 eggs. We learned that hens lay eggs (not roosters). We will be watching the eggs over the next 21 days.
We had fun working together to create our posters. The children learned a lot about each other (where they were born, who is in their family, any pets, etc.).
