Caterpillar observations: This week 2 of the caterpillars have gone into their chrysalis, while one is still a very small caterpillar.
This week we will be doing a "story stretcher" based on Eric Carle's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We painted a mural to be the back drop of the story. We talked about the differences between a worm and a caterpillar (ie. worms are underground, where as caterpillars are above ground, etc.). We also compared the Pill Bug to the worm.

Special Persons day was a big success this year! Thank you to all the family members and friends that came. The children enjoyed singing and performing for you at "Star Shine"!
During Community Circle this week we have been learning a new song called "One". We will be performing it in the near future for our families. This weeks curriculum began talking about the butterfly life cycle and evolved into talking about the differences between caterpillars and worms. We have read assorted books wrote down some of the similarities and differences among them. (ie. caterpillars have legs, worms don't, Caterpillars change into something else, worms, don't. Also where they live is different as well as what they look like). We have started a classroom mural and will be adding pieces to it as the month goes on. The mural is based on the season of Spring! Science Co-Op: Caterpillar observations & the lifecycle of the butterfly. We read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Eric Carle) and then we created our own pictures of the life cycle of the butterfly. The weather is beginning to cooperate and it is feeling more and more like Spring. The children In Preschool 3 and 4 enjoyed playing outside together..they had fun in the sun! Spring is here! Have you signed up for Spring Soccer? The sign up sheet is hanging on Dr. Jeff's door!
Once everyone is signed up (who would like to play), more information will be provided on location, times, etc. Monday April 6, 2015: Special Person Day: 9 a.m- 10 a.m: Children are welcome to bring a special person to school (parent, grandparent, family, friend, aunt, uncle, etc.) to enjoy Preschool Star Shine with us at our Community Circle followed by a light snack reception in preschool.
Thursday April 9th, 2015: Community Meeting 5:00-5:30 PM: This meeting is for parents, teachers and the Laurel Community. Thursday April 9th, 2015: 2020 Vision Team Meeting 5:30 PM: All are welcome to attend! Monday April 20th-Friday April 24th, 2015: School Vacation Week! For more important dates, please check our classroom bulletin board! :) Today we heard some clatter in the Preschool wing...and then we smelled Easter Bunny in the air. Ms. Amy & Ms. Lynn C investigated, and in fact the Easter Bunny was in the preschool wing! They tried to catch up with the bunny but it hopped out the back door. While hopping away...it dropped eggs, pencils and erasers. The children had fun searching for the eggs and goodies that the bunny left behind.
We realized that after the bunny left, that it filled our Easter basket bags that we had made. This week we have been working on our Cape Cod Alphabet Books (letters E & F) as well as talking about signs of the Spring season. We have been observing our classroom caterpillars (that were donated by a family in Preschool 3).
