When, we were in the hall going to Ms. Anne's class, the children noticed a leaf on the ceiling. They all had an explanation of how it got there!

This week, we talked about maps! Some friends helped tear the old maps so that we could make our collages. We then used the torn maps to collage a paper. We will be building our houses using different paper shapes next week. We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We sang the alphabet song, talked about upper and lower case letters and used our senses to explore a real coconut.
The children passed around the coconut, as they did so, they described what it felt like, smelled, sounded and looked like. Then we got to smell fresh shredded coconut. (We will taste it at a later date, once we found out everyone's allergies). Ms. Anita's class joined us for circle time today. We then went outside and played with our new "Buddies". We learned that we have a lot of the same interests and like to play with the same toys. We had a lot of fun! : )
The children created lines using different types of materials. One friend said "My body can make a line." as she was lying on the green rug.
Today, we started Mentor Buddies with Ms. Julia's toddler class. We met them in their classroom. We sat with them on their circle rug. We sang a name song and then we taught them 3 of our songs (twinkle twinkle little star, bubble gum and the ABC's). We then enjoyed play time with them on their playground.
Today, we worked on asking a friend to play. We are in the process of learning each other's names. Especially our new friends. We also worked on sharing, taking turns and asking for a turn to play with the "favorite" toys. Children are becoming more comfortable stating "I would like a turn with that when you are finished with it."
"News Ball" is a game that we play in the classroom. We pass a ball around, and the children can share news that they may have (or they may say "pass" if they do not wish to share). Typically we play this game on Monday mornings at circle time, to find out about our weekends. However, we played this game, after a friend went to the dentist. She thought she was the only friend that went. We found out that all the friends have gone. We also found out that all of "our" dentists are a bit different in ways (ie. male or female, some have "nurses" but some don't. And the most important it seemed...some give prizes, while others only give out toothbrushes.).
This friend got a prize....she received a "yellow poop eraser". Wow! The eraser smells like bananas. : ) The children thought this project was magic. I used painter's tape to create the first letter in their names. Then they painted with watercolor paints around it. Then when their papers were dry, we peeled off the tape, to reveal their first letter. Magic! : )
Happy 5th Birthday! :)
Thank you for sharing your special penguin cake with the Pre-K classrooms! : ) Ms. Nancy's class pictures will be taken on Thursday September 20th, 2018: 11:30 am.

Ms. Paige What is a hero? Who are first responders? We all can be first responders! Have you ever seen a friend fall down, and helped them up? In honor of all the first responders who helped on 9/11... 17 years ago, we made American flags. Our poem of the week was about "Heroes".
Art class with Ms. Alex, the children learned about different types of lines. Then they created their own pictures using Sharpie markers, colored pencils and crayons.
What is the "Kindness Club"? The kindness club is a club that everyone in the PK class belongs to. It is a service project club in which we do kind projects in our community. Today, was our first project. We made "belated" birthday pictures for Ms. Amy. Her Birthday was before school started. The children had fun singing Happy Birthday to her. (*Not all of the children are pictured, as some of our friends requested not to be in the picture). ![]() In our classroom, if you find a insect or a bug inside...you can catch and release it. Then you get to name it!
A PK friend found a black ant inside. She caught it on her finger "Look, I didn't hurt him! He is still walking." She then let "him" go outside. She named him "Little Peter". Drawing pictures...check out some of our art work! Our art work will be going home with us this week! : )
