We walked out and visited one of the school composters (behind the green house). The children noticed that there were a few snails inside as well as what looked to be old hay (grass). We put a few of the pumpkin pieces in the composter (eyes/mouth). After exploring the composter, we ventured inside the green house. The children noticed that it was warm inside. Some of the children remembered letting the butterflies go in there last year. We noticed that the school is reusing an old wooden cubby as a flower box. : )
Today, in Spanish, the children read the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear..What Do You See?
Last week they learned the colors in Spanish. Today, the children, paired up the colors with the animals in the book. What we know about pumpkins. Drawings of what our classroom pumpkin looks like. We also are beginning to learn a song about the parts of pumpkins.
Today, one of our classmates brought in a special treat for us to enjoy! We helped her celebrate her 4th birthday! : )
Ms. Lynn and I will be combining for a PK Halloween Party. The party sign up is hanging in between our 2 classrooms. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you! : ) We have been starting to talk about islands. We have learned that an island is a piece of land that is surrounded by water. It can be ocean (saltwater), freshwater or a little bit of both.
This coming week, a provocation will be set up for the children to explore and create their own islands during free play. For the Art & Literature Fair we will be going on an imaginary vacation to an island. This week we have been talking about how we will get there.
Here are a couple of pictures of the children brainstorming ideas on how to get to the island. This week a few friends have been working hard to dig out a piece of wood that they found under the sand (I think it was a piece from our old sandbox). One friend worked on it very hard each day. Finally he came to me, very excited, "I finally got the dinosaur fossil out. I know it is a bone of a T-rex because it has a little groove in the bottom, another dinosaur must have bitten him there." Persistence and hard work pays off! : )
A classmate brought in some colorful fall leaves for all of us to enjoy. We have found some pretty cool rocks and other materials from our playground.
We just started noticing that there is a pattern each month on our classroom calendar. We noticed that there are patterns all around us, especially in nature (leaves, on the tree bark, pumpkins, etc.). This week we are beginning to learn how to create our own patterns (AB-AB-AB, and ABC-ABC-ABC).
