These 2 girls discovered that they could make a "hibernation area" for the animals. They put the animals in the clear container, then added the water. Then they put the water beads on the top (they learned that the beads float). Then they put the clear & blue glass ones on top of the water beads (they learned that the glass ones sink). Then they said "it looks like ice." Later in the play, they stuck the spoons thru the beads at the top and said "It is like real ice...it is hard to get it through the top. But you can see the spoons under the water."
Today, we kept the materials the same, except that we added soapy warm water to the water beads, glass and river rocks. The animals, spoons and containers stayed the same.
