We painted a picture, creating a pattern of stripes. We then made puffy paint using (Elmer's glue, shaving cream & food coloring). The children used the puffy paint to create a picture. Then they did a small writing assignment to go with it (ie. Do you want to build a snowman? It doesn't have to be a snowman! It is a...).
We used the silk scarves to dance to the Frozen soundtrack. We moved our scarves up/down and side to side. We talked about opposites.
We also talked briefly about the Japanese flag and what it looks like. One of the children brought up the question "Do all countries use the same flag?" I said that they don't. A classmate told us that the Japanese flag looks different from our flag because our flag has stripes and Japan doesn't. We used the computer to look it up (technology). We read about the circle in the middle of the flag and how it is the symbol for the "rising sun". The children then created their own Japanese flag.
We made pictures for Mrs. B. We practiced our writing our letters as we wrote "Get Well Soon" on our pictures.
Learn To Play ("Buddies"): Our big buddies talked to us about what they do in drama class with Mrs. Wadsworth. They said that they are working on a play. They said that it is a lot of fun to be in plays, because they get to dress up in crowns and different types of clothes. We then went outside with our Buddies onto their playground.
Science (with Preschool 3): This week we talked about where the "active animals" or the animals that stay around during the winter, go to find food. We talked about the importance of continuing to fill the bird feeders throughout the winter (because the birds & squirrels become dependent on the food being there). We filled 3 bird feeders that we have at the Laurel School.
S.T.E.A.M (Science Expo): This week we have begun to talk about penguins. We have made a chart of facts that we know about penguins and are in the process of writing down what we want to learn about them. The children have wonderful questions (ie. how do penguins take a bath? Do they have feathers or fur? Do they have bones in their feet and small wings? Do they just eat fish and what type do they eat? Do they drink water? Where do they sleep? etc.).
Book Share: The books that have been coming in to be shared area amazing! So many different types of books. This week we have had a lot of mechanical books, books that either talk or play music. We had one extra special book, a book that had a recording of the child's grandmother reading the book aloud. We have been talking about each book this week, trying to determine whether it is a Non Fiction (factual book) or a Fiction book (a book created from the imagination). We have also been building our vocabulary, as we learned about what "car pooling" meant (as it was mentioned in 3 books this week). :)
It was great to see so many of you at our first Preschool Parent meeting. Some great ideas were brought up. Over the next few weeks, I hope to implement some of them into the blog and classroom. Thank you for sharing!
Just a reminder: Ms. Charlotte will be in Preschool 4 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as I will be out. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Amy! :)
